An Emotional Surprise Proposal Photoshoot | Riley + Scotty

Okay—so I got a message from Riley’s mom, Patricia, who’s basically the head cheerleader of this incredible and emotional surprise proposal plan. She’d rallied the whole girl squad to collaborate on who should capture the moment. How could I say no to that kind of energy?! Scotty had one particular request—he wanted their dog to be a part of the big moment. It was so sweet because their pup shook with excitement, tail wagging, knowing something BIG was going down. This day was a perfect mix of laughter, happy tears, and surprises.

Riley and Scotty’s Surprise Proposal Setup

When I tell you to picture the dreamiest backyard garden of Riley’s parents’ house—think lush greenery, a stone courtyard, twinkling string lights, and cozy seating nooks. It was like something straight out of a Better Homes & Gardens magazine. Scotty dropped down on one knee and popped the question, and Riley’s face went from surprised to genuine bliss in seconds. And then—she turned around and saw her entire family watching from the sunroom! Her sister and nieces had flown in just for this; you could feel the love. There were so many happy tears (especially between Riley and her dad—it was beyond sweet). I was snapping away, capturing all that raw, joyful energy—the giddy laughter with her friends, the wide-eyed surprise, all of it! It was a successful and emotional surprise proposal.

After the proposal, it started sprinkling, and I wasn’t too surprised due to the muggy day. But we weren’t about to let a little rain dampen the vibes! I whipped out my trusty clear umbrellas, and Scotty and Riley looked like total magic, cozying up under the raindrops for some dreamy, romantic shots.

The surprises weren’t over yet—Patricia had rented out River City Brewing Company for the ultimate post-proposal bash. The second Riley walked in, her face lit up like a kid on Christmas morning—full of shock and happiness just when she thought that was it! Friends and family, some traveling from far and wide, were there, ready to celebrate the night away. The atmosphere was buzzing, and I could tell it was one of those nights they had never wanted to end!
